Re-invent
A brand new multi-faceted art venue was just created in April by Cecilia Lanyon & Kristin Mikrut on the North Shore of Chicago called Re-invent. It’s roughly 4,000 square feet breaking even into a white wall gallery with studio space for resident artists and workshops. There are many different finds you can treasure. In another segment, they call Re-invent "innovative retail." From a dream to a reality, Cecilia shares her experience of building and developing this empty space from scratch with her best friend.

"Kristin and I started brainstorming this dream big idea in January and four months later had our first exhibit," says Cecilia. The opening included a multi-generational family show of the renowned late Franklin Mcmahon, a pioneer in American political illustration from 1960 to 2008. Ceciila adds, "We also exhibited various pieces from the entire Mcmahon family, which was an honor to present." The gallery also includes what was deemed a "movie theater"; a once walk- in freezer that now holds a viewing bench & a projector for multi-media film and sound art. The space will feature rotating exhibits of national and international artists on a monthly basis.

The studio space is rented out to five local residents that work in a variety of mediums. They provide a space for community workshops and events to introduce Re-invent to community members of all ages and interests. The retail space is an extension of the gallery, as it holds art on Consignment, as well as cause-based products. A section is also dedicated to art supplies and jewelry.
Re-invent is the only art space of it's kind between Chicago and Milwaukee. It is based in Lake Forest, Illinois, a north suburb on the coast of Lake Michigan. Cecilia and Kristin look forward to bridging the gap between both consumer and curator by providing an environment that fosters curiosity and fuels creativity.
